COLORADO SPRINGS -- The Mountain West Conference selected BYU junior Evan Urbina as Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the third time this season. UNLV freshman Nives Pavlovic received Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors.

Urbina, who hails from Huntington, Beach, Calif., went a combined 4-0 last weekend to lead 31st-ranked BYU to a 1-1 record against UC Santa Barbara (L, 4-3) and Loyola Marymount (W, 7-0). Against the Gauchos, Urbina recorded a straight-sets victory over Lucas Sudow (6-3, 6-4) at the No. 2 singles spot, after teaming with junior Daniel Hwang to defeat Taylor Chavez-Goggin/Nick Caledonia (8-5) at the No. 3 doubles position. On Saturday, Urbina notched two more victories against the Lions. Playing at the No. 1 singles position for the first time this season, he rallied back from a first-set deficit to defeat Ivan Lopez (4-6, 6-1, 6-2), after teaming with Hwang earlier in the match to down the tandem of Geza Bazula/Johan Berhof (8-6) at the No. 3 doubles spot. This marks Urbina's third weekly honor of the season.

Pavlovic, a product of Belgrade, Serbia, went a combined 6-0 last week to help 29th-ranked UNLV to a 3-0 record against No. 72 San Diego State (W, 4-3), No. 59 UC Irvine (W, 5-2) and No. 47 Boise State (W, 4-3). In Wednesday’s MWC league opener against the Aztecs, Pavlovic downed Julia Wais (6-7, 6-2, 6-2) at No. 3 singles to clinch the match for the Rebels, after teaming with junior Adrienn Hidvegi to defeat Olivia Colman/Alicia Aguilar (8-2) at the No. 3 doubles position. Squaring off against the Anteaters on Friday, Pavlovic defeated Becka Kwan (6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6)) at No. 3 singles, after teaming with Hidvegi for an 8-6 doubles victory over Courtney Byron/Miranda Young. Pavlovic capped off her undefeated weekend by notching a win over Boise State’s Biancha Jochimsen (6-2, 2-6, 6-2) at No. 3 singles, after teaming with Hidvegi to clinch the doubles point for UNLV with a narrow 9-8 (7-5) victory over the Broncos’ tandem of Elysse Edwards/Jochimsen.
