DENVER -- After a quick match in Denver, the No. 60 BYU men’s tennis team stayed unbeaten with a 6-1 win over Drake. With the victory, the Cougars improve to 8-0 on the season.

“The guys did a terrific job of being prepared and not taking anything lightly,” BYU coach Brad Pearce said. “We took care of business and are returning home 8-0.”

BYU swept the doubles matches with wins on all three courts. Evan Urbina and Spencer Smith started things off, defeating their opponents 8-2 at the No. 2 position. The Cougar pairs on courts one and three also recorded wins at 8-5 and 8-4, respectively.

Singles play flew by with straight set wins for BYU on courts one through four. Drake’s Jean Erasmus was the only Bulldog to earn a win on the night, a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Roman Warias. Smith closed things out with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 6 position, and the Cougars came away with a 6-1 victory and their win streak intact.

“The big thing is that the team’s confidence is growing,” Pearce said. “They’re battling in tough matches and they are not giving up. I’m proud to be associated with these guys.”

Arizona and South Alabama are up next for BYU. The Cougars will take on both teams next week in Arizona.
