HONOLULU -- In the first round of the Hawaii Invitational Tuesday the BYU men’s tennis team had impressive showings against players from the University of Hawaii. The Cougars won seven-of-eight singles matches and three-of-four doubles matches against the Rainbow Warriors, who finished last season ranked No. 41 in the nation.

“We had dominant performances in the first round of tournament play,” BYU coach Brad Pearce said.

Seven players were able to secure victories in singles play. Junior Thomas Shubert defeated Andreas Weber, No. 119 in the ITA preseason rankings, in three sets. Roman Warias also forced his match to three sets before pulling out the win over Daniel Llarenas 4-6, 7-6, 6-0.
