Academic All-MWC Team Announced
PROVO -- Last week eight BYU tennis players were honored for their success in the classroom as they were named to the 2009 Academic All-Mountain West Conference Team.
The recognized athletes include Elle Carney, Travis Fillmore, Daniel Hwang, Elizaveta Ezhova, Romina Nedakovic, Megan Price, Roman Warias, and Kourtney Young.
This is the second post-season honor for doubles partners, Carney and Price, who were named to the All-MWC doubles team in April.
“We are very pleased with the success of our student-athletes in the classroom and in competition,” said BYU Director of Athletics Tom Holmoe. “Both endeavors are equally important to us at BYU and demonstrate the quality of our student-athletes.”
A total of 213 BYU athletes were named to the Academic All-MWC team in the 2008-2009 season. BYU led the conference with 31 more student-athletes earning academic accolades than any other MWC institution.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
