Former Cougars Appointed to 10th Anniversary Team
PROVO -- Two former members of the BYU men’s tennis team were honored as selections to the Mountain West Conference All-Decade Team. Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms were one of three doubles pairs chosen to represent the conference.
Lozano and Vilms compiled a 49-15 record while playing together and still hold the BYU record for most career doubles wins and most wins in a season at 32. The pair finished the season ranked in the top 25 nationally in 2001 and 2002 and reached No.4 in the 2001 preseason rankings.
Both players were named All-Conference performers three consecutive seasons. They were also selected to the All-America team in 2002. Lozano and Vilms played in the doubles final at the regional tournament and competed at the NCAA national tournament in 2001 and 2002.
A panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and an online fan poll selected the players.
