TEMPE -- The BYU men's tennis team fell 0-7 to No. 33 Arizona State on Friday afternoon, falling to 6-4 on the season.

"We knew going in that this would be a tough road trip," said Cougar head coach Brad Pearce. "Our guys battled hard. It's tough coming from practicing indoors at altitude, to the warmer outdoors and slower conditions."

The undefeated Sun Devils won all three doubles competitions, gaining the early lead. Thomas Shubert and Daniel Hwang dropped a close 8-5 match to Andres Arango and Harry Skinner at the No. 2 position.

In singles play, ASU's Matt Brooklyn kept his record perfect by defeating Jonathan Sanchez in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Again, Shubert and Hwang provided hope for BYU, but eventually fell in three sets apiece.

"We feel that every match we play against good teams gives us the opportunity to get better and see what we need to do to become better tennis players," said Pearce. "We're doing the right things."

The Cougars resume action tomorrow as they visit Arizona. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. MT.
