Men Head to Utah Invitational
PROVO -- The BYU men's tennis team will travel up the road to play at the University of Utah Invitational on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Host Utah, along with players from Utah State and Weber State, will compete against the Cougars in the tournament.
With seven newcomers on this year's team, head coach Brad Pearce is looking forward to their performances.
"It's the first official collegiate tournament for a number of our guys," said Pearce. "I expect to see some competitive play from them."
The Cougars previously hosted the Utah Fall Tennis Classic in September, with Jonathan Sanchez and Cassidy Mears claiming the doubles title.
"I hope to see improvement from the [Utah Fall Tennis Classic]," said Pearce. "I feel like we're had a few solid weeks of solid practice."
The tournament will be played outdoors at Liberty Park Tennis Center in Salt Lake City as long as the weather holds. If the weather turns sour, the tournament will be moved indoors at Eccles Tennis Center.
The first round of singles will be played on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. MST. The day will consist of two rounds of singles play and one round of doubles. Competition will begin each day at 9:00 a.m. Competitors posting a loss in the first round will continue play in a consolation bracket.
