PROVO -- The BYU men's tennis team will open its fall season by hosting the Utah Fall Tennis Classic this weekend. Players from Boise State, Utah State, Montana State and Weber State universities will participate in the open tournament, along with most of the players on BYU's roster.

Also participating in the event will be former players, including BYU's head coach Brad Pearce, pros and junior players.

"It's a fun, competitive event," says Pearce. "It's a good mix of ex-pros, pros, college players, and junior players. It's really good for members of the community."

Jonathan Sanchez and Cassidy Mears, the two returning players on this year's team will both compete. Newcomers Tyler Clonts, Bradley Ferguson, Daniel Hwang, Thomas Shubert, Evan Urbina and AJ Young will also participate.

Play will begin on Thursday and Friday at 9 a.m. at the BYU outdoor tennis facilities while Saturday's matches will start at 11 a.m. with the championship match scheduled for later that afternoon.

All matches are open to the public and admission to the tournament is free. The BYU outdoor tennis courts are located just south of the Smith Fieldhouse and the entrance is on the east side. Public parking is not available on Thursday or Friday in the BYU Y parking lots until 4 p.m., but all BYU lots are open to the public all day on Saturday.
