Second Win, Much Needed

INDIAN HILLS -- The No. 75-ranked BYU men's tennis team found its second win Saturday by defeating the No. 68 University of California at Santa Barbara in a 5-2 decision. The Cougars are 2-10 on the season.

"It was a solid effort by all of our guys today," head coach Brad Pearce said." Our guys were tough physically and mentally. We've had a challenging schedule so this was a huge win for us today."

The Cougars jumped out to an early lead winning the doubles point as Erik Nyman and Nima Roshan won their doubles match 8-3 and Chip Hand and Alonzo Medina won theirs in an 8-3 decision.

In singles action BYU saw impressive wins from senior Nyman at the No. 1 spot, Hand, Ivan Kokurin and Nima Roshan. Dominik Kaufhold nearly won his match as he pushed his opponent to a third set losing in the final tiebreaker 13-11.

"This is a real confidence builder for us," Pearce said. "It's going to be a long weekend. We just need to keep fighting."

The Cougars will stay in Indian Hills to watch the final match of the Pacific Life Open tomorrow before heading to Phoenix to take on Arizona State.
