Win Over Pacific Starts Week Off Right
STOCKTON -- The No. 59 BYU men's tennis team defeated the Tigers of the University of the Pacific 5-2 on Saturday. With the win, the Cougars extend their record to 7-3 and Pacific fell to 11-4 on the season.
"This is a good way to start off a long week of matches on the road," said BYU assistant coach Brad Pearce. "We would have liked to win the match 7-0 but a win is a win."
BYU earned victories in two of three doubles matches to earn the team doubles point before claiming wins in four of six singles matches.
Junior Erik Nyman continued to play well at the No. 1 singles spot by defeating Lennart Maack 6-3, 6-2. Senior Carlos Lozano also came up with a big win for the Cougars at the No. 2 spot by beatin Arnar Sigurdsson 6-1, 7-6. Alonso Medina and Jeff Olsen were the other Cougars to win in singles.
The Cougars are back in action on Monday as they travel to take on University of California-Berkley.
