Vilms Eliminated In Semifinals Of Southern California Tournament

LOS -- BYU sophomore Gert Vilms was defeated in the semifinals of the singles main draw competition at the Southern California Intercollegiate Invitational Saturday in Los Angeles.

Vilms knocked off top-seeded Andrew Park of USC 6-2, 7-6 (3) in the quarterfinals before losing to fourth-seeded Simon Shen of UC-Santa Barbara 6-1, 7-6 (5) in the semifinals.

BYU freshman Carlos Lozano upset third-seeded Ryan Moore of USC 6-3, 0-6, 7-5 in the Round of 16, but was defeated by Sean Cooper of San Diego 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Senior Damien Ward also advanced to the Round of 16 but lost to No. 2 Patrick Gottesleben from USC.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Invitational Tournament ends the fall season for the team. The Cougars will start play again in January when their team season begins.
