BYU Blanks Idaho State, 7-0
PROVO -- For the second straight week, the BYU men's tennis team dominated their opponent, beating Idaho State, 7-0, in a Thursday afternoon match at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts.
The Cougars have showed strong doubles play this season, and that continued today as BYU won all three doubles matches. Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms, ranked No. 17 in the nation in doubles, defeated Hestian Stoica and Malcolm Swan, 8-1. Matt Stohl and Jeff Olsen also won 8-1, defeating Butch Strovidis and Adam Krupp.
In singles, in a repeat of last week against Utah State, BYU took five of the six matches in straight sets. In a change, Lozano played in the No. 1 spot and Vilms played in the No. 2 spot. Lozano defeated Simmo Sommer, 7-5, 6-3. Jeff Harbach needed three sets to defeat Vasili Devidze, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
The Cougars remain at home, taking on Weber State next Wednesday, February 21 in the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts at 6 p.m.
