The BYU men's tennis team dominated the BYU Men's Invitational this past weekend in Provo. Gert Vilms took home the singles title and teamed with Carlos Lozano to win the doubles championship as the Cougars proved themselves to be the team to beat in Utah.

In the singles draw, BYU had three players in the semifinals. Vilms defeated teammate Anton Rudjuk 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the final against Lozano, who advanced to the final by defeating David Mercier of Utah 6-2, 6-4. Vilms successfully defended his 2000 title by knocking off his doubles partner 6-3, 6-3 in the final.

In the doubles draw, it was an all BYU final. Vilms and Lozano beat Jeff Harbach and Jeff Olsen in the final 8-2. Vilms and Lozano also won the doubles title in 200 0. Both BYU doubles teams advanced to the final by defeating doubles pairings from Utah. A BYU team also won the consolation doubles tournament. Rudjuk and Jeremy Price defeated Ivanov and Novaceanu of Weber State to take the title 8-3.

Vilms and Lozano are ranked No. 4 in the nation for doubles. They will compete this week at the All AmericanChampionships in Atlanta. The tourney will feature the top 32 doubles pairings in the country.
