Lozano and Vilms Make Sweet Sixteen at All American Championships

Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms made it to the sweet sixteen at the All American Championships, but could not make it any further. The No. 4 preseason doubles team in the country lost to Andrew Colombo and Tiago Ruffoni of Auburn, 8-5.

Lozano and Vilms had little time to rest between last week's BYU Invitational and this week's tournament. The tandem took the BYU Invitational title for the second year in a row, and only had two days before they played in qualifying matches for the singles draw in Atlanta. Neither Vilms nor Lozano qualified for the singles draw.

The team took the third seed at the tournament and lived up to the hype in the first round. In their first match, Vilms and Lozano defeated Michael Calkins and Amer Delic of Illinois, 8-6.

The BYU men's tennis team has a little time off now. The men will next compete in the ITA Region VII Championships in Las Vegas October 24-28.
