Cougars Continue to Win at Home, Defeat Piolts 5-2
PROVO -- For the second straight night, the BYU men's tennis team quickly dispatched an opponent, this time defeating the University of Portland 5-2 on Saturday. With the win the Cougars improve their record to 4-5.
BYU continues to dominate in doubles play, as the Cougars swept all three matches from the Pilots, in taking the doubles point. The No. 1 pairing of Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms set the tone by defeating Travis Parrott and Peter Malacek 8-4. Jeff Harbach and Jeff Olsen took the No. 2 doubles match 8-5, before Nic Losee and Erik Nyman rolled to a perfect 8-0 win.
The Pilots tied the match at 1-1 after a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win by Parrot over Lozano. BYU bounced back, though, with consecutive straight set victories by Nyman, Losee and Anton Rudjuk to clinch the match.
The Cougars will seek to complete a perfect homestand with a match against the University of Denver, March 9. Play is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. (MST)
