TEMPE, Ariz. — Zach Fuchs and Redd Owen were named 2023 Division I Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic scholar athletes, the ITA announced Monday.
To earn the honors, athletes must meet a criteria of achieving a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year.
Owen achieved a 4.0 GPA during the 2022-23 academic year as a true freshman. The Sandy, Utah native appeared in 33 matches, including all 22 of the team’s dual matches. He played as high as No. 4 singles while also claiming WCC Doubles Team of the Week March 21 with teammate Brigham Andrus.
Fuchs earned a 3.51 GPA for the duration of the 2022-23 season. The sophomore registered a team-high singles winning percentage in 2022-23, which included a win over junior Wimbledon champion, No. 59 Samir Banerjee of Stanford. Fuchs’ earned WCC Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 7 with teammate Wally Thayne. He also garnered College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors and was named WCC All-Academic First Team.
Now a member of the Big 12 Conference, BYU will compete with several new opponents this upcoming year.
