TEMPE, Ariz. - Wally Thayne has been named No. 12 in the Mountain Regional singles rankings for his 2022-23 season performance, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced.

The sophomore earned WCC Second Team Doubles and All-WCC Honorable Mention Singles accolades in season where he competed in all 22 of the Cougars dual matches, totaling a team-high 13 singles victories. He achieved a national ranking of No. 123 in singles the week of April 4, a result of claiming the highest ranked win in team history on March 30 versus No. 20 Stanford when he defeated No. 5 Nishesh Basavareddy 7-5, 6-3.

The Newbury Park, Calif. native also defeated No. 69 Iiro Vasa (7-5, 7-5) to play a crucial role in BYU’s upset of No. 27 San Diego, the Toreros lone loss in WCC play.
