WCC unveils men’s tennis tournament bracket
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO – The West Coast Conference has released the bracket and match times for the 2023 WCC Men’s Tennis Tournament, scheduled for this Thursday-Saturday, April 27-29, in San Diego. BYU has qualified for the tournament as the No. 5 seed.
The Cougars will face fourth-seeded Portland on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. PDT. The Pilots won the teams’ regular season contest 4-0 on March 25 in Portland, Oregon. The winner of Thursday’s opening round match will advance to Friday’s semifinal versus San Diego, the tournament’s top seed.
The full schedule is available on the conference’s tournament central website, which also features live stream and live score links. In addition, those links will be available on BYU’s team website and social media accounts.
BYU finished 4-5 in WCC play and qualified for the six-team tournament by nature of the conference’s second tiebreaker: wins against common WCC opponents beginning at the top of the standings. A 4-2 win over San Diego, the Toreros’ lone conference loss, was ultimately the difference for the Cougars.
Aztec Tennis Center on the campus of San Diego State University will host the entire tournament. The women’s tournament will also be held concurrently at the same venue.
This is the sixth season the WCC has used the six-team format. The Cougars have made five of those tournaments and are looking for their first-ever WCC title.
