Thayne-Barnett duo highlights BYU performance at UCSB Classic

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — BYU men's tennis finished their fall season on Saturday at the UCSB Classic. 

Sophomores Wally Thayne and Jack Barnett highlighted the Cougars’ weekend performance, finishing second in the Classic A Flight Doubles Championship. The pair defeated LMU and St. Mary’s before losing to host UCSB, 6-8. 

In the Classic A Flight Singles bracket, Barnett won three of four matches, falling to eventual champion James Watt from St. Mary’s, 2-6, 2-6. 

Thayne, Dominik Jakovljevic and Mateo Vereau competed in the Classic B Flight Singles, with Thayne and Vereau both advancing to the semifinals. 

BYU will face the University of Hawaii in Honolulu to open the regular season on Tuesday, Jan. 11.
