Barnett & Gajardo named WCC Doubles Team of the Week
SAN MATEO, Calif. – BYU men's tennis sophomore Jack Barnett and senior Ben Gajardo were named the West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. It is the second time the duo earned WCC honors this season.
Barnett and Gajardo closed the regular season on a four-match win streak, improving to 9-1 as a doubles pair with two wins last week. The duo beat Pepperdine’s Adrian Oetzbach and Guy Den Ouden, 6-1 on Friday, helping the Cougars earn the doubles point in the match against the Waves.
The pair then defeated Diego Nava and Daniel Moreno of LMU, 7-5 on Saturday, again aiding BYU in earning the doubles point en route to a 4-2 victory over the Lions.
This is both Barnett and Gajardo's third WCC award. Barnett was named Singles Player of the Week once as a freshman last season and Gajardo earned Doubles Team of the Week honors as a sophomore. The pair also received the WCC Doubles Team of the Week award on April 13. This is the Cougars' fourth weekly award of the season.
