Melendez and Andrus Receive WCC Honors
SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference named Mateo Vereau Melendez and Brigham Andrus its University Credit Union Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week on Monday.
Junior Mateo Vereau Melendez and freshman Brigham Andrus went 2-0 on the road last week, helping the Cougars improve to 4-0 in WCC play. At Portland, the duo earned a tough 7-6 (7) win. Melendez and Andrus also clinched the doubles point for BYU in a 6-4 victory at Gonzaga on Saturday, giving BYU momentum as they went on to beat the Bulldogs 4-2.
The pair's match against Montana State on Monday, March 29 went unfinished with Melendez and Andrus leading 5-2.
This is the Cougars' first weekly award of the season. Melendez received WCC Doubles Team of the Week honors twice previously during his freshman year, the 2018-19 season.
BYU is 10-5 on the year and looks to remain atop the WCC standings as they host San Diego at the Outdoor Tennis Courts on Saturday, April 10, at 11 a.m. MDT.
