Eight men's tennis players set to compete in ITA Regional Championships

PROVO, Utah - Eight BYU men’s tennis player head to Denver, Colorado on Wednesday to compete in the ITA Mountain Regional Championships, Oct.  16-19.

The University of Denver is hosting the tournament.

Seniors David Ball, Sean Hill and Sam Tullis, juniors Ben Gajardo and Matheus Ferreira Leite, sophomores Kobe Tran and Mateo Vereau Melendez and freshman Jack Barnett will represent BYU. All of them qualified for the singles and doubles main draws.

The Mountain Region consists of 20 schools: Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, UNLV, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Southern Utah, Utah, Utah State, Weber State and Wyoming.

Hill was the singles region champion in 2017 and last year he made it to the singles semifinals but fell 4-6, 4-6 to Nevada's Julien Evrard. Tullis and Gajardo had success as a doubles duo in the consolation bracket last year. The pair competed in the consolation finals, but fell short, 6-8, to the UNM duo Ricky Hernandez-Tong and Stephan Holis.

The tournament begins on Wednesday, Oct. 16 and will run through Saturday, Oct. 19
