No. 26 BYU men's tennis extends winning streak to eight with 4-0 win over No. 40 Old Dominion
PROVO, Utah – No. 26 BYU men’s tennis beat No. 40 Old Dominion 4-0 Saturday, extending its win streak to eight Saturday at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts.
“That was a good team, they had defeated the No. 23 team in the country last weekend, so they’re a dangerous team with a lot of big hitters,” BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. “We’re doing a really good job with not allowing any team to get any points on the board and staying intense and focused from start to finish.”
The Cougars (11-2) came out tough against the Monarchs (6-5) to claim the doubles point.
At No. 2 doubles, Sam Tullis and Ben Gajardo handily defeated Nicola Vidal and Luca Maldoner 6-0. The victory gives the undefeated doubles duo a 10-0 record on the season. BYU's Mateo Vereau Melendez and Matthew Pearce followed with a 7-5 victory over Jannik Giesse and Justin Herrera at third doubles.
BYU claimed the next three singles points against the Monarchs. Tullis finished first with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Vidal at No. 4 singles and Sean Hill bested Aziz Kijametovic 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
At No. 3 singles, Vereau clinched the match for the Cougars with a three-set, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Giesse.
BYU travels to Boise State to face the Broncos on Saturday, Mar. 9, at 11 a.m. MDT. Live stats will be available on the men's tennis schedule.

Additional Coach Pearce Quotes
“I couldn’t be more proud of these guys. We came out with a lot of energy and focus to secure the doubles point and once again, we’re just coming out and playing good solid tennis in the first wave. And then No. 5 and 6 are coming out and getting early breaks. We’re just not allowing the team to get any points on the board, so I think that was so crucial tonight with Jeffrey digging in and not allowing them to get any points. I just couldn’t be more proud of these guys.”
