PROVO, Utah – The Southern California Tennis Association announced BYU men’s tennis as the 2017 recipient of the prestigious Long Ellis Intercollegiate Award.

The award is presented to a team that displayed excellence in sportsmanship and achievement on the court during the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships last October. In that tournament, many Cougar players withdrew from matches early because of BYU's policy of not playing on Sunday.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by the tournament and the Southern California Tennis Association,” BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. “It is gratifying to know my players represented the University with such distinction both as competitors and as sportsmen. This is an honor for us and means a lot to our program.”

Coach Pearce will attend the SCTA Annual Awards Banquet on February 5 in Los Angeles to accept the award on behalf of the team. Pearce is hopeful a couple of Cougar players will be in attendance with him.
