Cougars return home to host Montana State and Weber State

PROVO, Utah – The Cougars return home from a winning weekend at the USTA National Campus to host regional opponents Montana State and Weber State in a doubleheader this Saturday.

BYU (2-0, 0-0 WCC) faces Montana State on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. MST and Weber State at 5 p.m. MST. Both matches will be played at the Indoor Tennis Courts.

The Cougars are coming off of big wins against UNC-Wilmington and Florida Gulf Coast University. Sean Hill and Jeffrey Hsu led BYU in winning both their singles and doubles matches this past weekend. Doubles duo Matthew Pearce and David Ball saw victory in the No. 3 doubles slot. John Pearce, Ben Gajardo and M. Pearce also won in singles this weekend to secure the Cougars back-to-back wins.

Montana State (0-0, 0-0 Big Sky) will be opening its season Friday against the University of Utah before coming to Provo Saturday. With seven returning players, the Bobcats have a deep lineup. BYU and Montana State met last season, and the Cougars came out on top 6-1.

Weber State (1-0, 1-0 Big Sky) opened its season this past weekend with a 5-2 win over Southern Utah. The Wildcats will also be playing the University of Utah on Friday before coming to Provo. Weber State sports a young lineup: two seniors, four sophomores and one freshman. The Cougars and Wildcats met last season, where the Cougars earned a 6-1 win.  

Admission to the matches will be free to the public and free pizza will be provided. Links to live stats and a video stream can be found on the men’s schedule page.
