PROVO, Utah—BYU men’s tennis has announced the signing of California native Kobe Tran for the 2018-19 season.

“Kobe is an explosive player with classic lefty skills and a complete game,” BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. “We’re excited about his future and delighted he chose BYU.”

Tran, from Union City, is currently ranked 10th in the boys’ 18 singles and third in the boys’ 18 doubles. He was ranked sixth in the boys’ 16 singles and was in the top 150 nationally for boys’ 16 singles.

In the North Coast Section (NCS) Championship, Tran won singles and was a team finalist. He took third place in doubles at the NCS Championship twice. Tran reached the state semifinals match in singles for James Logan High School.

A four-star recruit, Tran will be a crucial addition to the team after senior John Pearce graduates following this season.
