PROVO, Utah— BYU sophomore Sean Hill fell in a hard-fought match to Timo Stodder of Tennessee 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of singles in the ITA National Fall Championships in Indian Wells, California.

“Sean played a competitive match today against one of the best players in the country,” BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. “Getting this kind of experience will only help him to learn where his game needs to improve to compete at that level. He’ll have another tough match in the back draw and another opportunity to build on today.”

Hill, representing the Mountain Region, will compete against No. 14 Wayne Montgomery of Georgia at 11:45 a.m. PST in the consolation draw Thursday.
