Pearce brothers named to WCC All-Academic Team

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – John Pearce and Matthew Pearce of BYU men’s tennis were named to the West Coast Conference 2016-17 All-Academic Team on Wednesday.

John, a junior from Provo, Utah, holds a 3.93 GPA as an economics major. He finished the season with a 12-8 record and 6-1 mark in conference play. John tied for second on the team in singles victories and placed second in doubles wins with 11. This is John’s second consecutive WCC All-Academic honor.

Matthew, a sophomore majoring in management strategy from Provo, Utah, earned a conference-high 3.97 GPA. He posted a 12-10 singles record and tied his brother for second on the team in singles victories. Matthew went 7-3 at No. 4 singles and finished with a 4-4 conference record.

To be considered for the all-academic team, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a significant contributor to his or her team. The WCC selects an all-academic team for each WCC-sponsored sport at the conclusion of each athletic season. To read the WCC's full release, click here
