Carrazedo, Tullis reach round of 16 at ITA Regionals
LAS VEGAS – BYU doubles duo Aidan Carrazedo and Sam Tullis reached the round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle on Thursday.
Carrazedo and Tullis defeated Air Force’s David Mottice and Isaac Perez, 8-5. A victory over No. 5 seed Kyle Butters and Jack Heslin from Boise State will send the BYU duo into the quarterfinals.
In the singles bracket, JD Malan defeated Mauri Benetiz (New Mexico State) in a narrow 7-6, 7-5 victory before falling to Utah’s David Micevski 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 16. Matthew Pearce dropped his match 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 to New Mexico’s Sean Baklini in the round of 32.
Malan teamed up with Weber State’s Scott Hintze to advance to the second round of the doubles consolation draw. Teammates Pearce and Jacob Sullivan will also compete in the second round of the consolation bracket after receiving a bye in the first round.
Carrazedo made it to the third round qualifier of the singles consolation bracket while Derek Vincent and Tullis both dropped their second round consolation matches.
