Cougars conclude play at Dar Walters Classic

BOISE, Idaho – After a tough day of competition, BYU men’s tennis concluded play at the Dar Walters Classic on Saturday.

In the round of 16 of the first singles flight, No. 1 seed Keaton Cullimore fell to Utah State’s Daniel Echeverry 6-2, 6-2 while Matthew Pearce lost his match to No. 4 seed Julien Evrard (Nevada) 6-1, 7-6. Senior Jacob Sullivan upset No. 2 seed Kyle Butters (Boise State) 6-1, 6-1 but later retired his quarterfinal match to No. 7 seed Santiago Sierra (Utah) 4-6, 5-6.

No. 1 seed Garret Vincent fell to Nevada’s Jonathan Aremon 6-1, 6-4 in the second flight of singles. Freshman Sam Tullis also dropped his match against Idaho’s Carlos Longhi Neto 6-2, 6-1.

In the singles consolation bracket, Aidan Carrazedo defeated Whitman College’s Zach Hewlin 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) before retiring his match to Max Olson (Air Force) 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 in the quarterfinals.

In the doubles draw, Cullimore and Pearce as well as JD Malan and Sullivan both retired their matches.
