MORAGA, Calif. – With the regular season winding down, BYU men's tennis added another West Coast Conference victory with a 4-0 win at Saint Mary's on Friday.

"I’m always impressed with how strong and deep the tennis programs are in the WCC, regardless of record," BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. "We feel we need to come to play every match and hats off to Saint Mary's today for being a tough team. Our guys showed a lot of grit, having to finish up finals and come in to play an early morning match. They showed grit and determination in striving toward our team goal, and I am proud of what they accomplished today and we're looking forward to playing Pacific tomorrow."

With the win, BYU (18-5, 7-1 WCC) strengthens its second-place standing in the West Coast Conference, trailing San Diego by a single game.

The Cougars took control early against Saint Mary's after winning the doubles point. BYU's Andrey Goryachkov and Shane Monroe won 7-6 at first doubles and Keaton Cullimore and Jeremy Bourgeois pulled out a victory at third doubles to score the first point of the match for the Cougars.

Moving to singles, Monroe pulled off a decisive 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot over the Gaels' Alex Hunt. The Cougars built a 3-0 lead after Goryachkov won at third singles, with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Playing at No. 5 for the Cougars, Jeremy Bourgeois won with a 6-3, 6-2 victory to help BYU complete the 4-0 sweep.

The Cougars continue the road trip with another conference match against Pacific on Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m. PDT. Fans can follow the match live.
