BYU vs. Idaho box score

PROVO, Utah—Behind strong singles and doubles play from John Pearce and Jacob Sullivan, BYU beat Idaho 5-0 on Friday and won its 10th straight match at home.

"Idaho is a good team," BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. "We wanted a solid match and we got that. I think it's good for our guys to play matches like this. We're happy to get the doubles point. It's been awhile. We want to play and compete, and we're looking forward to taking on Utah State tomorrow."

BYU (14-3, 3-0 West Coast Conference) won the doubles point for the first time since February. After Andrey Goryachkov and Juan Canales dropped their match against the Vandals’ Mark Kovacs and Lucas Coutinho, Keaton Cullimore and Jeremy Bourgeois defeated Idaho’s Odom Barta and Felipe Fonseca, 6-2, to even the doubles score at 1-1. Pearce and Sullivan claimed the doubles point for the Cougars by beating Idaho’s Jackson Varney and Artem Vasheshnikov in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-4).

Pearce and Sullivan kept their momentum throughout singles play. Pearce claimed the first singles match for the Cougars, defeating Vasheshnikov in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Sullivan quickly followed his partner, beating Varney in the No. 3 singles spot, 6-1, 6-2, to pick up the third point of the match for BYU. Cullimore clinched the sweep for the Cougars, defeating Fonseca in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Shortly after, Shane Monroe defeated Barta in the No. 1 singles spot, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-4) to end the match with a 5-0 sweep for the Cougars. Idaho falls to 11-4 (5-2 Big Sky) on the year.

BYU will play Utah State Saturday at noon MDT in Provo. Click here for live stats and video.
