PROVO, UTAH—With the match tied at 3-3, junior Aidan Carrazedo came from behind to win his match and seal a 4-3 victory over UNLV for the No. 59 BYU men’s team on Saturday.

Carrazedo defeated UNLV’s Richard Solberg 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 to seal the victory and win the second match of the weekend for the Cougars. UNLV falls to 5-4 on the season.

"At the end of the day, it's about getting the win, and our guys are finding ways to get the job done," BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. "I was delighted for two players in particular today: Juan, who stepped in and played a great doubles match and Aidan, who clinched the win for us today. Different guys are stepping up when it's needed, and it's been satisfying as a coach to see the growth of my players under extreme pressure. We still need to get better as a team, so we'll rest tomorrow and be back at it Monday morning."

BYU (13-3, 3-0 WCC) dropped the doubles point for the second time this weekend. Despite Andrey Goryachkov and Juan Canales’s 6-0 victory over Charlie Croxford and Solberg, the team went down early. John Pearce and Jacob Sullivan lost 3-6 to the Rebels team of Jakob Amilon and Ruben Alberts, and Keaton Cullimore and Shane Monroe lost to Adam Gage-Brown and Evaldo Neto 5-7.

Pearce got the play going on the singles side, defeating UNLV’s Neto 6-0, 6-2. He was quickly followed by Sullivan’s win over Gage-Brown, 6-4, 6-4, to give the Cougars a 2-1 edge. Goryachkov lost to Alberts, 5-7, 2-6, to tie the match back up at two each.

Monroe claimed the next point for Cougars by defeating Amilon 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). Cullimore dropped his match to Alexandr Cozbinov, 6-7 (2-7), making it 3-3 for the two teams. Carrazedo’s match gave the Cougars their fourth point of their match and the win.

"Shane has been a rock for us at the No.1 singles position," Coach Pearce said. "John took care of business today and Jake also had a great performance. Those incredible wins were followed by Aidan's clinching win in a gutty final set. Just another day at the men's tennis office for us."

The Cougars will stay at home for their next two matches. They will play the University of Idaho Friday, Mar. 25 at 2:00 p.m. MDT and Utah State Saturday, Mar. 26 at 10:00 a.m. MDT. Live stats for both matches can be found here.
