Men's tennis signs two recruits

PROVO, Utah-- BYU men's tennis head coach Brad Pearce announced the signing of two high school seniors, Utah standout Brocton Andrus and junior Top 25 Californian Garret Vincent, Monday morning.

"We're excited to have Garret and Brocton join our team," Pearce said. "They will be incredible assets and both will bring different strengths of play to the team. We are looking forward to them joining us next year."

Andrus, a senior at Lone Peak High School, is currently ranked number 191 in the USTA in the Under-18 division. While he didn't start playing tennis until he was 13 years old, he's worked hard to rise in the rankings.

"It's a dream come true," Andrus said on signing day. "It's hard to describe all of my feelings right now. I started playing tennis when I was 13 and playing tennis for BYU was always my goal. It's crazy that it actually happened."

Vincent, a senior at Alisa Nigel High School, has been in the Top 25 for Southern California in the juniors division throughout his high school career. His father, Blair Vincent, was a nationally ranked junior tennis player who played collegiate tennis for UC-Riverside. 

"It's so exciting to have the chance to play for BYU," Vincent said after signing. "It was my first choice of where I wanted to play and now that it's actually happened, it's amazing. It feels great accomplishing this dream."

Both players will be joining the team for the 2016-2017 season.

Brocton Andrus- Highland, Utah

Before BYU:

• No.1 year-end ranking in 2013 and 2014 for the state of Utah
• Qualified for the Davis Cup's 18's Boys National Team Championship in 2015
• Won singles title at the 18's Duel in the Deseret September 2014 (National Level 5)
• Runner-up at 18's Boys Doubles at National Level 3 Summer Sectionals
• Three-time 5A Regional Champion (2012- 2014) for  No. 1 singles
• Also recruited by the University of Utah, the University of Redlands and the Air Force Academy

Garret Vincent- Laguna Nigel, California

Before BYU:

• Top 100 in recruiting throughout Juniors career
• Won back-draw at the National Open Boys 18's in Arizona in 2015
• Went undefeated in high school play in 2014 and won high school district
• Top 8 in Orange County-CIF in 2014
• Also recruited by the University of Utah, UC-Irvine, Brown, Pepperdine and the Naval Academy.
