Monroe moves on to third round of All-American qualifier
TULSA, Okla.--Shane Monroe continued his run in the All-American qualifying tournament on Tuesday by defeating the University of Texas's George Goldhoff in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) to advance to the final round of the tournament at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa.
"Shane played another terrific match today," BYU head coach Brad Pearce said after the match. "He is doing a great job of having a great winner to error ratio in his shot selection. He's playing very physical tennis, and his work on the court and in our strength and conditioning program is clearly paying off.
Monroe's win allows him to advance to the third round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) All-American qualifying tournament. This is the last round of the qualifier, and those who win in this round will advance to the national ITA All-American tournament.
Monore will face the No. 5 seed, USC's Max de Vroome, on Wednesday morning in Tulsa. If he wins Wednesday, he could play again as early as Thursday afternoon in the main draw.
