Cougars shine in first ever BYU ITA Summer Circuit

PROVO, Utah — Junior Keaton Cullimore won the men’s singles championship while fellow Cougars Demi Daniels and Brittanie Eraso won the women’s doubles championship as BYU hosted its first ever ITA Summer Circuit Series last Friday and Saturday. 

Cullimore also reached the championship in the men’s doubles draw along with fellow Cougar sophomore John Pearce but was defeated by former BYU players Francis Sargeant (2011-2015) and Evan Urbina (2007-2011). 

“Talent will get you far, which Keaton has a lot of, but what makes Keaton special is that he puts in the hard work which is going to take him even farther. I’m excited to see what the coming year will bring for Keaton and I feel some of his best tennis is still to come,” assistant coach Brett Bernstein said.  

Cullimore recently returned from an LDS church mission and the tournament was his first competitive collegiate tournament since being back. He will rejoin the team this season for his junior year.

In the women’s doubles draw sophomore Brittanie Eraso and junior Demi Daniels defeated Brianna Turley of the University of Utah and Whiteny Turley of Kaysville, UT 8-4 to win the championship. Victoria Robinson of the University of Utah won the women’s singles championship.  

Other Cougars participating in the Summer Circuit Series included sophomore Scott Bohne and volunteer assistant coach Kendi Hansen. Bohne and Hansen were defeated 8-4 by Cullimore and Pearce in the men’s doubles semifinal. 

The ITA Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA, wrapped up last weekend with play at nine sites. Next up is the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships, which will take place on August 8-11 and will be hosted by Indiana University.
