Signee wins state high school title

PROVO, Utah—BYU men’s tennis recruit Jacob Tullis won the 5A Boys Utah High School State Championship with an impressive 6-1, 6-3 straight-set victory in the finals in Salt Lake City this past weekend.

Currently, Tullis is the No. 1-ranked junior tennis player in the state of Utah and one of the top recruits coming out of the USTA Mountain Region in 2015.

"This is a tremendous accomplishment for Jacob,” said BYU men’s tennis coach Brad Pearce.  “He has a bright future ahead of him here at BYU.”

Tullis, who prepped at Viewmont High School in Bountiful, plans to serve an LDS church mission to Scotland prior to joining the BYU program. His brother Sam, who is currently serving a church mission in Costa Rica, will start his collegiate career in the fall of 2016. Both brothers will be part of the Cougar program in the fall of 2017.

In six out of the last seven years, the men’s program has landed the number one junior tennis player in the state of Utah as well as one of the top three junior players in the USTA Mountain Region.
