BYU head coach Brad Pearce releases book
PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s tennis head coach, Brad Pearce, will release his first book Tuesday, May 12, entitled Life Lessons from Centre Court at Wimbledon: Teaching Your Children to become the Best THEY Can Be.
Pearce reached No. 1 in the nation and No. 5 in the world as a junior tennis player before heading to UCLA where he was a two-time All-American in his two seasons with the Bruins. He turned pro after his sophomore season and enjoyed a successful 10-year career on the Tour, winning 10 career titles and recording wins in singles and doubles over many legends of the sport. He is also one of only 37 Americans to reach the final eight at Wimbledon in the Open era of tennis after playing the No. 1 player in the world, Ivan Lendl, on Centre Court. Despite his achievements through the years as a player and coach, Pearce’s greatest satisfaction has come from teaming with his wife, Cindi, in raising their six children.
“I have used a lifetime of experiences in tennis, reaching Centre Court at Wimbledon and being a parent of six children as a backdrop for sharing principle-based lessons that can be applied to any pursuit, be it academic, athletic, artistic or other," Pearce said. "I believe that our children can be successful in all these areas and still have time to magnify church responsibilities while having an active social life, with parents acting as Alignment Specialists as our children pursue their goals.”
In 2012, Pearce delivered an address at BYU’s Education Week on the same topic and was approached by Cedar Fort Publishing to expand that presentation into a book. Life Lessons from Centre Court at Wimbledon: Teaching Your Children to become the Best THEY Can Be represents that effort.
“[It] incorporates the lessons learned from playing on the biggest stage in tennis into concepts that will help parents teach their children,” former BYU football coach, and childhood neighbor, Lavell Edwards said. “I highly recommend it to both young and old.”
There will be a launch party and ‘Breakfast at Wimbledon’ event at Liberty Park Tennis Center in Salt Lake City on July 11 from 9-11 a.m. MDT. Life Lessons from Centre Court at Wimbledon will be available Tuesday at independent book-sellers, Deseret Book and the BYU bookstore, and can be purchased online today at Amazon, Deseret Book and Barnes and Noble.
