Cougars host Tigers in WCC clash
PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s tennis returns home this week to host Pacific in a West Coast Conference showdown Friday in Provo.
The Cougars (9-13, 3-2) lost their first matches in WCC play last weekend at Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine and area looking to snap out of a four-match losing streak. Senior captain, Francis Sargeant, continues to climb BYU’s all-time singles victories list and currently sits at sixth with 88 wins. The Cougars are tied with Pacific for fifth in the conference. The winner of the match will take sole possession of fifth as WCC tournament seeding begins to take shape.
The Tigers (6-14, 3-2) ride a lot of momentum into Provo with three consecutive WCC wins, including a 4-2 victory over No. 68 Portland who is tied for second in the conference. Pacific is led by last season’s WCC Freshman of the Year, Miguel Diaz, at No. 1 singles. Diaz recorded wins in singles in conference wins against Portland and Saint Mary’s.
The match begins at noon on Friday at the outdoor courts on BYU campus. Live stats will be available on the men’s schedule page.
