Cougars host Air Force Saturday
PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s tennis returns home to host Air Force Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the indoor practice courts in Provo.
“I believe we have improved since our home opener,” BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. “I’m looking for individuals to step up so we will see who does.”
The Cougars are coming off a split last weekend in New Orleans where they beat the University of New Orleans 5-2 but fell to No. 62 Tulane University 4-3. Freshman Shane Monroe will look to continue his hot start to the season. Monroe has won all four of his singles matches this year while splitting time between the No. 1 and No. 2 singles slot.
Saturday’s match will be Air Force’s first match of the spring season.
“Air Force is a solid, well-disciplined team,” Pearce said. “We will have to play well to take care of business. Hopefully our guys will be ready mentally and physically to put it all out there on Saturday.”
The match is free to all spectators, and free pizza will be provided. Prizes will also be given away during the match.
In between doubles and singles play, the team will hold a special tribute to longtime BYU tennis fan and friend, Harold Turley, who passed away recently. The team will recognize his wife, children and grandchildren by retiring a team jersey in his honor.
