Sullivan and Ball upset No. 1 doubles seed

LOS ANGELES -- Sophomore Jacob Sullivan and freshman David Ball delivered the upset of the day at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships by beating the No. 1 seeded doubles team Friday.
The Cougar duo ousted UCLA's top duo of Joseph Di Giulio and Katue Sell 8-3 on its way to the semifinals.
"It's been a great week of tennis," BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. "Ball and Sullivan upset the No. 1 seed from UCLA so we are looking forward to a big day for them tomorrow."
After beating the UCLA duo, Sullivan and Ball beat another team from UCLA in the quarterfinals, winning 8-5. They will play their semifinal match against a duo from UC Irvine Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Sophomore Aidan Carrazedo moved into the finals of the singles qualifying consolation bracket by beating Gary Yam of Azusa Pacific in the semifinals 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. He faces Teague Hamilton of UC Santa Barbara in the finals Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
In the main draw consolation bracket, four Cougars advanced to the quarterfinals with victories Friday. Shane Monroe advanced with a first-round bye, Jeremy Bourgeois beat Pascal Engel of Azusa Pacific 6-2, 6-0, Ball ousted UC San Diego's Mark Meyer 6-1, 6-2 and Sullivan was victorious in his matchup with Tomas Aranguiz of Azusa Pacific 6-1, 6-3.
Quarterfinal matches will be played Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and semifinal matches will follow shortly at 12:00 p.m.
