Doubles duos advance at So Cal Intercollegiate
LOS ANGELES – All five BYU doubles duos advanced into the round of 16 Thursday on a day that saw each Cougar lose in their singles main draw matches. Matches continue in the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships Friday at UCLA.
Main draw doubles play continues Friday at 1 p.m. when the BYU duos will face players from UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego. Should any Cougar team advance, the quarterfinals follow shortly at 2:30 p.m.
In main draw singles competition, Andrey Goryachkov and Francis Sargeant both fell in the round of 16 to UCLA Bruins. Goryachkov lost 6-3, 6-0 to No. 4 seed Karue Sell while Sargeant was forced to withdraw from his match against Ryoto Tachi due to injury.
Shane Monroe, Jacob Sullivan, David Ball, Robin Pfister, Jeremy Bourgeois and Victor Brown all moved to the round of 16 in the main draw consolation bracket. Monroe will receive a bye and move straight to the quarterfinals while the other Cougars play their round of 16 matches Friday at 9:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, sophomore Aidan Carrazedo advanced to the semifinals of the qualifying draw consolation bracket with two victories over Alexandre Miaule of UC San Diego 2-6; 7-6; 10-6 and Sidney Newcomb of Azusa Pacific 0-6, 6-3, 10-2. His semifinal match is Friday at 11:00 a.m.
