PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s tennis released its schedule for the 2014-2015 season Thursday. The schedule is highlighted by five fall tournaments and regular season matches beginning in January.

The Cougars play hosts for the BYU Invitational, their first tournament of the season, Sept. 11-13 at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts. BYU will head up to Salt Lake (Oct. 9-11) for the Utah Invitational, then play the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships (Oct. 15-18) in Las Vegas, the So Cal Intercollegiate tournament (Oct. 29 – Nov. 1) in Los Angeles and at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships (Nov. 6-8) in New York.

Regular season play begins on Jan. 10 as the Cougars host Utah State and Weber State. BYU also plays at PAC-12 power Stanford on Feb. 7 and hosts rival University of Utah on Mar. 6.

West Coast Conference play begins Feb. 4 when Saint Mary’s comes to Provo to play the Cougars. BYU also hosts reigning WCC Champions, San Diego, in its final match before the WCC Tournament on April 18. The Cougars will also play at Pepperdine on Mar. 28.  BYU lost to Pepperdine 4-3, in heartbreaking fashion last season, after a nail-biting final match. At that time, the Waves were ranked 49th nationally. The WCC Championships will be held Apr. 22-25 in San Diego, CA.

The Cougars return seven players including No. 1 and 2 singles players Francis Sargeant and Andrey Goryachkov. BYU has also added the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in mid-major conferences as five star recruits, Shane Monroe and Victor Brown, join the team. The Cougar roster includes players from six different countries including Australia, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States.

Sargeant is currently eighth all-time at BYU for singles victories with 80 and ninth all-time in winning percentage. He needs 44 victories to break the current school record for singles victories.
