Five Cougars make WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll
The West Coast Conference announced the Commissioner’s Honor Roll today and the list included five members of the Cougar men’s tennis team. Junior Francis Sargeant and freshmen Matthew Pearce, Juan Canales, Jeremy Bourgeois and Jacob Sullivan were all honored as members of the Honor Roll.
The honor roll recognizes student-athletes throughout the conference that excelled in the classroom as well as for their respective teams. The honor roll is split into three honors based on GPA: gold (3.75-4.00), silver (3.50-3.74) and bronze (3.00-3.49).
Pearce, who is headed out on his mission, received gold honors with a 4.0 GPA and Canales was given silver honors after posting a 3.58 GPA. Sargeant (3.38), Bourgeois (3.20) and Sullivan (3.15) all earned bronze honors.
All of the honorees, except for Pearce, are returning for this upcoming season and will look to improve on the 10-15 record the team posted in the 2013-2014 season. The team played eight freshmen and will rely on the experience gained this season. Sargeant, who has won 80 singles matches, needs 43 wins to become the BYU all-time leader.
The team plays fall tournaments beginning in September and starts regular season and conference play in January.
