In the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I rankings announced today, the BYU men’s tennis finished in sixth place in the 10-team ITA Mountain Region.

Francis Sargeant ended the year ranked sixth in singles, among 20 student-athletes from the region. The only upperclassman on the 2013-14 squad and the team’s captain, Sargeant amassed an impressive 17-6 record in dual matches at No. 1 singles for BYU, going 28-11 overall. He was named to the All-WCC Second Team in singles and broke into the Cougars’ top 10 in career singles winning percentage (.683) and career singles victories with 80.

With a young crop of players, BYU men’s team concluded the 2013-14 campaign in a three-way tie for fifth place in the West Coast Conference with a 4-5 mark, going 10-15 overall.

They were ranked as high as No. 45 in the nation and extended their winning streak to 38 against opponents in the mountain region, before falling to regional rival Air Force, 3-4 in Colorado Springs on Jan. 31st.
