BYU players advance in Southern California Intercollegiate

LOS ANGELES -- The BYU men’s tennis team concluded singles qualifying play at the 57th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championships on Wednesday.
 
Freshman Sterling Galli swept his first match of the day against Nishanth Yamani of UCLA, 6-0, 6-0. He followed that victory with another against UC San Diego’s Devon Sousa, 6-1, 6-2.
 
Jeremy Bourgeois also advanced to the main draw defeating Concordia’s Hayden Hensley, 6-1, 6-4, following a first-round bye. 
 
Sophomore Nikki Rae beat Gary Yam of Azusa Pacific, 6-1, 6-4, before he lost to Cory Pang of Cal Poly, 6-1, 6-3.
 
Juan Canales defeated Azusa Pacific’s Alan Leahy in a close match. Canales won the first set 6-3 before losing the second set 7-6. He rebounded in the third set with a 6-3 win, taking the match.
 
BYU continues tomorrow with singles main draw at 10 a.m. and doubles qualifying at 4 p.m. PDT.
