Sargeant and Goryachkov cruise into quarterfinals, Sargeant falls in singles

LAS VEGAS -- Doubles duo Francis Sargeant and Andrey Goryachkov cruised their way into the quarterfinals as BYU concluded day three of competition at the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships Friday.

Second seeded Sargeant and Goryachkov secured a spot in the next round, rolling to an 8-5 win over Odon Barta and Artemiy Nikitin of Idaho.

The BYU doubles team will take on No. 7 seed Brendan McClain and Garrett Patton of Boise State tomorrow at 10 a.m. PDT.

No. 6 Sargeant also advanced in singles play before being ousted in the quarterfinals in his second singles match of the day. The BYU junior topped Nevada's Ryan Andrada, 6-3, 6-3, to advance into the quarterfinals. Sargeant then lost to No. 1 seed Andy Bettles of Boise State, 6-4, 6-0.

The singles and doubles champions advance to the 2013 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, from November 7-9, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, N.Y.

Day four of regionals begins with doubles at 10 a.m. PDT on Saturday. Tournament results can be viewed on the USTA website.
