BYU to host the Utah Fall Tennis Classic
PROVO, Utah--The BYU men's tennis team will host the Utah Fall Tennis Classic this weekend, Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 12-14. Tournament participants come from various locations with a breadth of competition experience.
"This is a USTA tournament meaning there are going to be a lot of college players, current professionals, former professionals and some of the best junior players," Pearce said. "I think it's a good thing not only for our players, but also I think it's good for the community."
The Cougars look to build upon their previous season's first-place finish in the ITA Mountain Region. It was their fourth-consecutive undefeated season in regional play. BYU swept the awards for singles player, doubles team and coach of the year in the region. The Fall Classic will also be the debut of four Cougar freshman.
Although the tournament includes several college players, the participants do not compete as a member of their respective teams, but rather as individuals.
The 2012 tournament marked the sixth-consecutive year a BYU player won the singles and the second-consecutive year a BYU team won the doubles.
Singles play begins at 12:30 p.m. at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The first doubles match will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Admission is free and open to the community. To follow the tournament online, click here.
