Netters fall to No. 18 Stanford
STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 48 BYU men’s tennis team fell to the No. 18 Stanford Cardinal 7-0 on Friday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
“Stanford is a very good team, as they always are, and they were ready for us today,” head coach Brad Pearce said. “Our guys played tired, both physically and mentally.”
The Cardinal (3-1) earned the doubles point by topping BYU (5-2) on all three courts.
In singles play, junior Patrick Kawka snapped his undefeated 6-0 streak in dual matches this year by falling to No. 39 John Morrissey 6-1, 6-2.
On court 6, freshman John Pearce gave Trey Strobel all he could handle but couldn’t quite secure the match, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
“We will do what it takes to be ready for a solid Air Force team Saturday night,” coach Pearce said.
The Cougars look to bounce back Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Air Force at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts. Admission is free and pizza will be provided.
