PROVO, Utah – The BYU Cougar swim and dive team will look to keep tradition alive as they start the season in a completely new conference.

“We have some very good competition ahead of us,” BYU head coach Tim Powers said. “Some of it is new competition, others are teams we have faced before so we know how to prepare and we know what needs to be done in order to do well.”

The BYU swim and dive team has joined the BYU men’s volleyball team in the MPSF conference after having competed past years in the Mountain West Conference. The new schedule for the Cougars has them up against familiar faces as well as some new challenging tasks.

“We’ve competed against UNLV before and we know that their men’s team is very talented,” Powers said. “As for the women’s team, Hawaii and Santa Barbara could prove to be a challenge for them as well.”

The Cougars definitely benefit from having a schedule that puts them up against teams they’ve swam against before. BYU will also have a few invitationals that will allow them to test their strength against multiple teams, both in and out of the conference.

The first home meet of the season will be the annual Blue and White team competition on Oct. 7 in the Richards Building Pool at 6p.m.
